ECP Supply Auckland Council For Food Scrap Bin Rollout

New food scrap bins are about to hit Auckland homes!

In their aim to be Zero Waste by 2040, Auckland council are rolling out a new food scrap collection service. ECP are proud to have supplied over 100,000 kerbside bins for this roll out.

Food scraps make up 45% of weight in rubbish collected from the kerbside and it is estimated that 39,000 tonnes of food scraps* will be diverted from landfill and converted into renewable resources at the new state-of-the-art Ecogas plant in Reporoa.

The plant uses an anaerobic digestion technique, where bacteria break down the food scraps into valuable bi-products - biogas, renewable energy and fertiliser.
